Eggs-perimenting with Eggs!
Last week our 2nd and 3rd graders studied oviparous creatures. These creatures, including birds and reptiles, lay eggs. The class painted eggs with colored syrup and created papier mâché egg bowls. They also worked together to create and illustrate a new species of an oviparous creature, featuring a writing piece about their "discovery". When you have a chicken coop right outside your classroom, anytime is a good time to study eggs!
The creative class wrote and performed "fairy tale switch-up" puppet shows using egg-shaped characters, as "Goldilocks and the Three Bears" became "The Paleontologist and the Three Dinosaurs" and “The Three Little Pigs" became "The Three Adorable Penguins and The Mistaken Polar Bear".
The curious children also dissected and observed the parts and functions of an egg.
They designed individual egg vessels that would protect an egg for EGG DROP DAY. They ate egg drop soup and egg rolls...a delicious way to end the unit!
Special thank you to the "Ladies in the Coop" for sharing their eggs for all of our fascinating eggs-plorations.
